Sketch and Snack At Queen’s Park, New Westminster

Details

Welcome to a sketch meet up that also includes a picnic option. We will meet for our hybrid event, on a gentle grass slope and under large shade trees. The location is between the Bandshell (outdoor stage) and the large Picnic Shelter #1. A children’s playground is nearby too. There might be a live music event nearby, with seating, on this same Sunday afternoon.

Hopefully we can hold a few picnic tables too. Nearby are drinking fountains (plus paint water) and washrooms. There is also a park concession with food, beverages and even Rocky Point Ice Cream.

Things to sketch:
• informal strolling garden
• formal rose garden
• tall stands of cedar and fir trees
• drawing each other or other people nearby
• heritage homes along 1st Street

Things to bring:
• art supplies
• food or beverages to share, if you like - there is NO obligation
• a collapsible stool or chair, some kind of a mat or blanket (there are a few picnic tables too)

Getting here:

For public transit, take the SkyTrain to New Westminster Station, then take the #105 Uptown bus to Queen’s Park. By the way it is only a mini bus.

This big bus runs goes past the north side of Queen's Park, between two SkyTrains Stations: 22nd Street and Braid. From the bus stop its a short walk to our meet up point

If you are driving, parking areas are available near our meet up point. See map.

Now for some trivia
Queen's Park was opened 31 years before Stanley Park in Vancouver. It was established in 1859, making it the oldest park in all of BC.
