WIMDI Speaker Series - Understanding Financial Statements

In 2017, The WIMDI Speaker Series is inviting engaging speakers each month to give talks on topics that help women kill it at work.

Welcome to Talk 1 of 12 - How to Interpret Financial Statements.

Studies show that women start investing later than men, which leaves women playing catch-up at every age level. Because of this lag, women end up left out of lunch-hour stock talk, and lose out on this key opportunity to build relationships and demonstrate the financial skills that are critical to success in the upper-levels of companies. This gap becomes even more apparent when women get their first management roles and become responsible for these key metrics.

This talk seeks to give women access to this basic building-block of financial literacy and teach them to confidently step into conversations about company finances. We’ll cover:

• Interpreting and understanding the nitty-gritty of financial statements
• Assessing the financial health of your current company, or one you’re considering working at in the future
• Understanding the financial priorities of upper-level management to help you move up in your organization
• Developing a clearer picture of investing and gaining the power to shape your financial future

The goal of this talk is to give you the tools to take control of your career and personal investments by de-mystifying company finances.

This workshop is facilitated by Dorah Barden. Dorah is a Financial Advisor who is passionate about helping women develop financial literacy. A familiar face to those of you who come to WIMDI events regularly, she is easily the most excited speaker we have ever had. I can't wait to see the fantastic presentation she has been nerding out over for (literally) months.
