WordPress Beginners Guide Workshop (PAID EVENT)

This introductory session is geared at bloggers and web designers who are ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS to WordPress. This introduction session will begin with installing WordPress on your local machine. Once installed, a thorough walk through of the WordPress admin interface will be discussed.

Once the session is complete, participants will know:

How to install WordPress The difference between posts and pages The difference between categories and tags How to publish new post and new pages How to upload images and edit them How to use the Wysiwyg editor How to post videos and documents How to install themes and plugins How to create users How to modify basic settings Time permitting, we may also look at theme editing using Jetpack’s CSS editor.

The session will be split into 2 days:

Friday July 12: 6pm — 8pm:

Participants will install WordPress on their own laptops. Good/recent/up-to-date working PCs and Macs only. Participants may opt to install WordPress on a hosting provider, but we cannot guarantee that Internet access will be up 100% of the time.

Please note that all participants will need to have WordPress up and running on localhost or at a hosting provider. Localhost set up and help will not be provided during Saturday’s session.

Saturday July 13: 9 — 5pm:

Intro to WordPress. Full day of WordPress tinkering.

Instructor: Christine Rondeau

Former Chemist and University of Ottawa graduate, Christine became a web developer (http://2013.montreal.wordcamp.org/schedule/speakers/www.bluelimemedia.com) in 2001. The early days of web development consisted of building custom made PHP-based CMS and Movable Type blogs. Like so many other developers, Christine gradually migrated towards WordPress and has been using it in almost every project since 2005. Christine teaches WordPress at BCIT, is a forums moderator at http://wordpress.org and an active member of the WordPress community. @bluelimemedia (http://twitter.com/bluelimemedia)
