This month's feature is DANIELA I. NORRIS!

Daniela I. Norris is a former political writer, turned novelist, author, speaker and time-traveller. After two decades of living in six countries on three different continents, she returned to Canada and is now based in Montreal. She is the author of three novels, three non-fiction titles and a collection of short stories. She is currently working on her first YA novel, The King of Montreal, based on a conspiracy theory from the 1800s.

Norris is in charge of award submissions for John Hunt (UK) and believes that literary awards are important in helping debut writers break through and in acknowledging established authors.

Her stories, articles and essays have been published in magazines and anthologies and have won numerous awards. She is the recipient of the John C Laurence grant from the UK Society of Authors and is a member of the Quebec Writers’ Federation, The Writers’ Union of Canada, SWWJ (Society of Women Writers and Journalists, UK), Historical Writers’ Assoc. (UK) and is Goodwill Ambassador for the charity, Children of Peace.

WRITING ACROSS TIME AND PLACE

As writers, we are often told to ‘write what we know’. However, many of us enjoy researching and writing about past events, real or imagined. Historical fiction is a very successful genre, and there are many mainstream novels that use historical events as their backdrop. Writing across time and place opens our writing to many new possibilities and enriches our lives through learning and research of past events.

Fascinated with Past Life Regression, Norris has written a trilogy of novels with three timelines: contemporary New York, 18th century France and 15th century Africa. She will read an excerpt from Recognitions, the first in this trilogy, and answer questions related to writing and literary awards.

If there is time, she will share a short chapter from WIP, The King of Montreal, set in 1800, and discuss the conspiracy theory behind it.

AFTERWARDS, we'll open the floor for attendees to share up to seven minutes of work. This can be novels, screenplays, scripts, shorts, works in progress or poetry/verse, for example.

Please come with your video on, at least at the beginning so everyone can see your beautiful self. (If this is an issue, please talk to the host when you arrive.)

We suggest a donation of $2 to $5, etransferring to malcolm (at) malcolmvandelst.com. This goes towards paying our featured presenters, meetup (~$20/mo) & Zoom ($20/mo) fees, our society incorporation and (hopefully) an upcoming anthology. Covid has put a cramp in our society and anthology plans for the time being. You will be informed as to how much money is collected in our weekly email. Donation is a suggestion only--please pay what you can but come!
