Virtualization solutions for website development
Details
Our presenter this month will be Peter Gordon, well-known, local web developer, PHP guru and project manager. His topic will be:
Virtualization solutions for website development.
Oracle VirtualBox is a great hypervisor tool to use to spread GNU-Linux by installing and operating it virtually from a host desktop machine regardless of brand. Virtualization is also demonstrated as a valuable vector to spreading GNU-Linux in the community like the Norwalk virus in Vancouver in January.
A few configurations are needed to extend its use as a development environment for web developers, which is a massive improvement over the most common methods for web development on the desktop. There will be a discussion of the technical configurations for individual and team use, as well as what are the social benefits to the enterprise after adopting virtualization solutions. Distributions of middleware embedded with the full server stack is part of the evolution of the art of deploying software solutions to the internet. The presentation will also feature some pictures of kittens, sloths, and fish.
As previously announced, the meeting will take place in Room 7000, SFU Harbour Centre, 515 West Hastings Street on January 21, 2013, from 7:00 - 10:00pm.
After the meeting our Swagmeister will raffle off several technical books, and we will then adjourn to Steamworks for drinks and discussion.
Hope you can make it.
