Our speaker this month will be our own John Weintraub, Chair of VanLug. John has an excellent technology background as a network administrator and a strong understanding of the scientific method. He holds an associate certificate in Network Administration (Unix/Linux option) and three other technology certificates from BCIT. His undergraduate studies were in social and life sciences. He is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, and is studying for his Linux Professional Institute Certifications, levels one and two. John believes strongly in promoting FLOSS and Linux and is a self-employed entrepreneur-consultant operating his own business, Weintraub Consulting, which offers a variety of administration, maintenance, and VAR services to small and medium enterprises.

John will be reprising a talk he gave to a network administration user group on applying science methodology to the problems of network administration. He will reveal how scientific principles can improve diagnostic, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in hardware, software and buggy code contexts. John will demonstrate, in an entertaining fashion, how to move beyond a haphazard approach to systems testing and achieve more reliable outcomes when trouble shooting to increase efficiency and save time.

As usual, we will follow the lecture with a book raffle and then adjourn to a bar for drinks. BTW, we are looking for recommendations for a relatively quiet bar in the downtown Harbour Centre area. We find Steamworks is ok but a bit on the noisy side.

It looks like an interesting evening, so come on out, see some friends and learn a thing or two.
