General Tech Meeting - Security in Canada
Details
Hi folks,
Our next general meeting will be held as above, next Monday, April 24, 2017, from 7-9pm, in Room 2270, at SFU Harbour Centre, 515 West Hastings Street.
Our topic this month will be Security in Canada. Our guest speaker will be Simon Wong from Scalar.
In February Scalar released its third annual Scalar Security Study: The Cyber Security Readiness of Canadian Organizations. This annual survey of over 650 Canadian IT and IT security professionals reveals the true costs of cyber security compromises, how cyber attacks are evolving, and what strategies, tactics, and technologies are most effective in combating today's cyber attacks.
Simon Wong, is Scalar's Security Specialist. He will present an overview of the key findings of the study and discuss strategies to achieving a stronger cyber security posture.
Simon has always had a passion for IT, and has enjoyed many different roles in his 17+ years in high tech, beginning with system administration.
His academic specialization was in Computer Science and Cryptography. He is an experienced Software Developer for high-availability telecommunications systems, commercial web applications and physiological model simulations. More recently he has held technology consulting, product and sales management roles.
As Security Specialist, Simon's primary focus is supporting Scalar's Western Canadian Clients in the execution and improvement of their security programs. These engagements vary by customer but can include risk advisory services and security testing, security infrastructure architecture, and managed security operations. The common thread in all of his engagements is his focus on the reduction of enterprise security risks.
Simon is a graduate of McGill University and the University of Manitoba.
This will be most interesting. Hope to see you there.
Bill
