Ubuntu Touch (also known as Ubuntu Phone) is a mobile version of the Ubuntu operating system that was originally developed by Canonical Ltd. and is now being developed by the ubports community. It is designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers, with the original goal of convergence intended for laptops, desktops, IOT devices, TVs and smart watches for a complete unified user experience.

This event's presentation will include a live demo of Ubuntu Touch running on daily driver devices. A brief history of and future road map for the Ubuntu Touch project will be presented. A question and answer period will occur after the initial presentation.

About the Presenters:

Wayne Taylor and Joseph "Joe" Liau were active members of the Ubuntu Vancouver community. When Canonical decided to drop the Ubuntu phone project, Wayne and Joe gravitated towards the ubports (https://ubports.com/) community, which picked up the development of Ubuntu Touch and was also filled with very friendly, welcoming and encouraging people from all over the world. They quickly became integral members of the community and started to do what they enjoy: talk about Ubuntu and record it (https://soundcloud.com/ubports).

In addition to ubports community management and marketing, Wayne and Joe enjoy studying various programming languages and dabbling in app development. Outside of ubports, Wayne runs his own private-label water company and is engaged in various entrepreneurial pursuits. Joe is a public high school teacher / educator in the Greater Vancouver Area.
