Sorry for the late notice about this month's meeting. Additional apologies, but the following is a late revision of this month's presentation - still Geof Glass, still about the philosophy of FLOSS.

Our topic this month will be: "Philosophy of Technology: Free Software and Common Sense Myths about Technology" presented by Geof Glass. He will discuss two popular myths about technology.

Myth #1: Technology is just a neutral tool. ("Guns don't kill people, people kill people.")

Myth #2: Innovation follows a rational path of progress in which better technologies out-compete worse technologies.

So RSVP and come out and exercise your mind. Expand your understanding of technology, FLOSS and how we think about it.

Our speaker this month will be Geof Glass. Born in Ottawa,he has been an award winning professional software developer since 1991. As a PhD candidate (ABD) in the school of communication at Simon Fraser University, Geof studies the on-line commons.

The 39-year-old Burnaby resident is a cofounder of the Vancouver Fair Copyright Coalition and is greatly concerned about the planned overhaul of Canadian copyright law and the creation of a surveillance society by Lawful Access legislation..

Our meeting will be from 7:30pm to 10:00pm in Room 7000, Simon Fraser University, Harbour Centre.

N.B., SFU Harbour Centre is one block south of the Waterfront SkyTrain Station. Elevator to the 7th floor is down the hallway off to the right of the main entrance lobby.

Hope to see you there.
