Duncan Furniss from IBM speaks about xCAT
Details
IBM's investment in Linux runs into the billions. And they've made every penny back more than once. Duncan will discuss some of the projects in which he has been involved, especially the tools required to transform mere hardware into a functioning parallel compute engine.
From there he'll talk about xCAT, IBM's Extreme Cloud Administration Toolkit - it's birth, development, death and rebirth. He'll then discuss use cases for xCat, possibly involving a demonstration or remote access to a production cluster. To conclude, he'll get under the hood and examine the architecture and discuss how to configure xCAT
to manage a system.
Duncan Furniss, is a 20 year veteran with IBM. He's a technical resource specialist in the Systems and Technology Group, assisting their sales and distribution activities. His involvement with Linux resulted from his enlistment to design, sell and make Linux clusters usable. Along the way he's become an early adopter of Linux and Linux as a workstation OS at IBM, as well as Android as a mobile compute platform.
Knowing Duncan, this will be an excellent presentation. Come with your questions in hand. http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/software/xcat/
After the meeting we'll raffle off a number of books and then adjourn to Steamworks for drinks. It should be a great evening!
