What we’re about
Interested in Vedic philosophy and want to meet others with a similar interest? Our group aims to build a community of people interested in studying and living the teachings of the Vedas in the modern world. This group aims to find synthesis in the various strands of Vedic philosophy without being held to one particular path or guru. Ideal group members would be students of Vedic philosophy, Hatha yoga teachers and practitioners, Tantric/kundalini practitioners, Ayurvedic practitioners, Desis/Hindus that want non-denominational fellowship and curious others who may want to learn more about Vedic philosophy but are not sure where to start! Ideally meetings will bring variety of activities: study circles of scriptures, asana sessions, bhajans, visiting local Hindu Temples, Indian restaurants, guest speakers (Swamis, etc) and more!

Bhagavad Gita Book Club (Study Circle): Chapter 6-- Yoga of Meditation
Casa de Luz Village, Toomey Road, Austin, TX, Austin, TX, USNow that Krishna has explained to Arjuna (and us!) many of the details of selfless work, knowledge, renunciation of action and much more-- we need to turn inwards for a moment to begin the peeling away of the layers of ourselves and false identification with our ego. One of the best ways to do this is Meditation, or Dhyana. Hence, this chapter is titled "Dhyana Yoga". Many people mistakenly believe that meditation is only discussed in the Hatha yoga texts like the Yoga Sutras or Hatha Yoga Pradikipa. This is not the case and the Gita predates these texts by several centuries by most estimates! "Let a man lift himself by his own Self; let him not degrade himself".
For those who may be attending for the first time, we are using the Easwaran 2nd edition of the Gita for the study group. Additionally, we have posted videos of the previous sessions on our Facebook Group page. Please sign up and can view the links here:

Casa de Luz Village, Toomey Road, Austin, TX, Austin, TX, USAt the end of the last chapter, it is declared that the greatest yogi is one who knows the divine with faith and concentration. In this chapter, Krishna explains our higher self's excellence, all-pervasiveness and supremacy within our lives. Here, Krishna explains his material and spiritual energies. "I am the taste in water, the light of the sun and the moon...". We come to learn more about how the divine manifests into the visible universe via Samkhya theories of creation. He also explains to us the 4 classes of worship as well as the classes of souls that may still be attached and lost in the wheel of samsara and Maya.
