Bhagavad Gita Book Club-- Chapter 1 (+ Intro to Mahabharata)

Details
Tired of the same old boring study circles? We are!
Instead of sitting around and reading a few lines in a text and never actually getting through the entire text, we're going to take the approach of a book club. What does this mean? It means that ideally we will have read the chapter of focus ahead of time, so we can use the time more in the discussion and clarification of the text. This will be a MUCH better use of time and will make the study group infinitely more interesting and useful.
For the purposes of this book club/study group, we will be using Eknath Easwaran's 2nd edition version of the Bhagavad Gita. This book was chosen as it is less heavy on some of the Sanskrit terminology and will be much easier to read for those not already familiar with this text. It is also inexpensive to purchase and easy to find.
Ideally, we will cover 1-2 chapters per month of the Gita, and since it has 18 chapters, will take approximately 1 year to complete. However, it will take a lifetime to digest! If you are a yogi yearning to deepen your practice or are just interested in Indian philosophy, then learning the Bhagavad Gita is arguably the most accessible and single most important book in all the Vedic scriptures.
As MK Gandhi once said, "When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face, and I see not one ray of hope on the horizon, I turn to Bhagavad Gita and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow.". The Gita is also the book that Schopenhauer quoted when he saw the first atomic bomb drop.
It will be held at the well-known Casa De Luz in Austin. We will hold the meeting in the "Arcoiris Room" which is upstairs from the courtyard before reaching the main courtyard near the restaurant.
