VOTE TODAY! One Proposition is directly animal related today....

Details
"DON'T BOO, VOTE" said President Obama. THIS IS A REMINDER to VOTE today Tuesday. From 7am to 7pm. Early Vote turnout is very low according to news reports. Don't let apathy allow the wrong officials to get in ! See below for potential animal-supporting choices.
FYI in Harris County you can vote at ANY Election Day polling location: https://harrisvotes.com/VotingInfo/PollingLocations
You can find out your PRECINCT HERE https://teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/back2HomePage.do
On Election Day, any voter can vote at any polling place. You will be able to vote near where you work, live, or go to school - at any one of ~50 Early Vote locations and 700 Precinct locations in Harris County.
Statewide Ballot Measures (Find out more at my.LWV.org/Texas)
There will also be 10 Propositions on the ballot, which would amend the Texas State Constitution.
ALSO PLEASE BE AWARE that there is one ANIMAL Proposition to vote on-PROP #10. It's a law to allow a police dog or horse to be given to it's last 'handler' when the animal 'retires' -- as opposed to being auctioned off (horse sold as meat, which happens frequently) or killed. This link gives more about this Proposition--as well as the others on the ballot.

ALSO TAKE NOTE OF PROPOSITION #6. It Authorizes the legislature to increase bonds for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute >>>>THIS MIGHT INCREASE FUNDING to research PLANT-BASED FOODS LINK TO CANCER BUT WILL ALSO INCREASE FUNDING FOR ANIMAL RESEARCH. Might happen regardless, this is the toughest area to stop animal exploitation, but something to consider...
ANOTHER ONE animal-related: PROPOSITION #5 would require the Legislature to allocate the money raised from state sales taxes on "sporting" goods (i.e., hunting, fishing, outdoor equipment) to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Texas Historical Commission (THC). Revenue from such taxes would be used to improve and manage state and local parks and historic sites, and to acquire new sites.
Proposition 5 closes a loophole in the current law that prevents all the revenue raised by these sales taxes from being given to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Historical Commission, thus allowing some of the money to be used to balance the state budget. https://my.lwv.org/.../prop-5-sporting-goods-taxes...

If you want to investigate candidates, here is some help: Gene Feigelson is an esteemed real estate person in Houston who is very active with the Vegan Society of Peace (VSOP), the Peaceful Planet Foundation (PPF) and others. Gene is very savvy and knowledgable about the Houston political scene. I asked him to give me a list of the candidates running in this election who would be the most likely to vote for animal-friendly and animal-protecting policies and here are his recommendations. I also posted in the comments recs from Sima Ladjevardian who runs a group called BigHearted Texas. Click on th e post to see the comments to see their recs
