Local Farm Tour @ Dilish Farm (NE Vancouver)
Dilish Farm, 22904 NE 58th St, Vancouver, WA, 98682, Vancouver, WA, USTour a local farm in Vancouver!
Learn about local food production at Dilish Farm. Dillon + Trish (aka Dilish Farm) have been growing a variety of plant foods for 10+ years. They are opening their farm for free to show us what it's like to grow quality food at scale.
The Plan: Farmer Trish will guide us on a walking tour of the farm. We will learn about plants and taste test as we go. Dilish Farm normally charges $25/person for their farm tours. As they're hosting our group for free, please bring money to say thanks with your dollar. They'll have fresh produce for sale, including veggies, fruit, mushrooms, and herbs. They also offer teas, apple cider, flowers, wreaths, and more.
Tour Itinerary:
- 1:00pm: Arrive, park, and gather
- 1:10pm: Walking tour of the fields and greenhouses
- 2:10pm: Q&A with a Farmer (Seated)
- 2:40pm: Shop the farm goods! (Bring your reusable bags)
- 3:00pm: Leave
If interested, hang around until the end to visit with the chickens and ducks.
A Note from the Farm:
"Thanks for your interest in visiting Dilish Farm. I'd love to share the day touring with you all. We'll show you the lovely things we do at our farm to care for our vegetables and grow nutrient-dense foods. On our tour, we'll talk about intercropping plans, growing cover crops to feed the soil, and hand-weeding and plant care. We'll visit our logs in the forest where we grow shiitake mushrooms. And we'll walk through our tunnels that help us grow food in the winter and allow us to start seeds early in the spring.
We hope our tour helps people see what it's like to grow whole food. We want to showcase how small farms can be a sustainable source of food for large communities.
We look forward to visiting with everyone!
Thanks,
Trish of Dilish"Good to Know:
- How to Get There: Dilish Farm is located at 22904 NE 58th St, Vancouver WA, 98682. You can use the comments to coordinate carpooling.
- How to Shop: Come ready with card or cash to buy food. You can also order in advance online (https://www.dilishfarm.com) to have your box of veggies ready in the walk-in cooler.
- Animals: When we arrive, their trusty farm dog, Leia, will greet you at your car. Part of her job is announcing when someone new arrives. She does this very loudly! Know that she is friendly and loves kids. You may also see Stormtrooper the cat roaming the fields or rubbing on legs for pets.
- Wear good shoes: This is a working farm. We'll be outdoors in nature for two hours. I recommend wearing comfortable, sturdy boots/shoes for walking in the dirt.
- Bring a friend: Or bring the family. The RSVP limit is 4.
- Unique Items: Dilish Farm offers some nonconventional items. Ask about the walnut ink, mullein torches, and other fun farm creations.
- Is Dilish veganic?: No. Dilish Farm sells a large variety of vegetables, fruits, and other goodies, including eggs and honey. They are not a veganic farm, and they have many roaming chickens and a few ducks that contribute to the overall ecosystem.
- Participants: This event is open to our Vancouver Vegans group and we may also be joined by some current Dilish Farm CSA members.
- Waivers: When we arrive, we'll be asked to sign a photography waiver (optional) and general safety waiver.
- Where else can I find Dilish?: If you can't make this tour, you can meet Trish or Dillon at the Vancouver Downtown Farmer's Market most Saturdays. Stop by and say hi.
- Website: Learn more about the farm here - https://www.dilishfarm.com/.
