This is the 3rd session and you can drop in on any session. We will be joined by a guest speaker, Maureen from FoCo Trash Mob team. She will be discussing her trash mobbing initiatives. We will also have time for Q&A and weekly check-ins about participants' progress.

Would you like to reduce the amount of plastic you use but aren't sure how to start? During the Plastic Free July virtual sessions I will be giving top tips, plastic free "show and tell", demos, Q&A, and reviewing common scenarios.

Plastic Free July started in Australia and has become a global movement that 100+ million people in over 190 countries have participated in. You don't have to be completely plastic free, you can start by reducing take-out containers or coffee cups or whatever is a good starting point for you. We can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.

Info will be provided about how to eliminate and/or reduce the many different types of plastics in your life. I intend to have weekly sessions but it's OK if you can't attend all of the sessions. There will be time for Q&A each week.

Benefits of attending:
-Meet new people and be a part of a like-minded community
-Learn about more sustainable options
-Learn a lot of money-saving strategies that are planet-friendly!
-Learn about habit-change principles
-Help others with your ideas (this will be a collaborative effort!)
-Have fun!

Background:

Plastic is killing animals, causing disease and creating toxic water, land and air.

I became vegan for the animals and recently when I saw the pictures of animals who are killed or injured because of plastic, I really couldn't ignore it. Mother birds mistake plastic litter as food and their babies die with bellies full of plastic. Fish are consuming and dying from plastic not to mention all of the land animals. This doesn't include the harm from fossil fuel extraction and production of plastic. I also found out that oftentimes our plastic recycling is just dumped, sometimes in impoverished communities. I couldn't ignore that either. Not only that, but plastic is a hormone disruptor & leaches into our food & beverages from packaging. Micro plastics are found in the eco-system and our food supply is threatened by this. I changed many of my habits and I feel happy with my less wasteful lifestyle. Over the last two years, I have eliminated most single-use plastic.
