We are thrilled to announce our upcoming major solo exhibition with Soey Milk. The Los Angeles-based, Korea-born figurative artist will premiere her fourth solo exhibition, Lianas, with the gallery on Saturday, August 10th, from 7 to 11 PM.
In the delicate dance between tradition and metamorphosis, the tendrils of Milk’s visual narrative intertwine like sinuous vines of lianas, reaching back to the fertile soil of heritage while embracing the vibrant hues of contemporary expression. Like vines seeking purchase on ancient trees, Milk draws sustenance from the rich tapestry of cultural history, weaving its threads into the fabric of her own. With each brushstroke, she strives to ascend toward greater understanding, guided by the wisdom of the past and inspired by the beauty of the present moment.
Visitors are invited to wander through this verdant labyrinth of tradition and growth, where the roots of Milk’s creative lineage entwine with the blossoms of modern expression. Describing her new piece, “HWAJODO: Silk and Down” (seen above), Milk shares: “Viridian as an underpainting hue provides peeks and gradations of fresh green throughout this painting. What I do in the beginning stage of my work are gifts I can give to my future self, like splurges of rich color or intense brushwork that push me to make adventurous decisions.”
Opening the same night in Gallery 3, Polish contemporary artist Ewa Prończuk-Kuziak
will unveil her new solo exhibition titled Let It Go, Let It Flow.
Prończuk-Kuziak’s oil paintings are a combination of still life, nature, and fantasy. She creates rainbow-colored visions of animals that are made of materials, as if woven out of thread and decorative fabrics. Building on contrast, they are full of life, energy, and fantasy, always idealized in their complicated nature and continuous transformation. In her works, Prończuk-Kuziak uses intensely saturated colors, which illustrate the vibrancy of the world her characters inhabit.
Regarding her new works, Prończuk-Kuziak shares, "I often talk about how my paintings are short stories, snapshots of reality, moments captured in a frame like in a Polaroid picture. I paint oil paintings, but in a way I create a painterly collage, in which I talk about difficult things in a colorful, funny, and surprising way. I paint emotions, giving them shapes, colors, and dynamics, I transfer them to the surreal world of art, in order to show more – less literally, ambiguously but therefore more strongly. Art is my diary, personal journal, carrier of stories, magic, and beauty. The stories I tell are both mine and everyone’s. Because on the other end, there are the emotions and the story of a person looking at my painting. A viewer, by interpreting the symbolism I use, tells his or her own part of the story, making it more personal from his/her perspective.”
She adds, “My latest series of paintings, titled Let It Go, Let It Flow, is a story about the search for freedom. Freedom to let go, to take care of yourself, notice yourself and your needs. To stop and listen to your inner whisper. To allow yourself to feel emotions, also the difficult ones - anger, shame, sadness or fear - without remorse. Freedom to free yourself from the past and indulge in the present. To accept changes, things as they are, to allow life to flow naturally, like a stream. To be happy. Just let it go, let the colors flow.”
Both shows will be on view through September 14th.
