Step Ladder - Advanced Beginner / Intermediate Hike
Details
Join the Sundays at 10:00 Hiking Series as we "climb" the step ladder in the Spring Mountains.
This is the great hike for advanced beginners to challenge themselves and enough of a workout for our intermediate hikers.
The Step Ladder trailhead starts at the Mt Charleston Scenic Byway (across the street from the Visitor Center). There is a large paved parking area and vault restrooms.
We will start at an elevation of around 6570' making it at least 15° cooler. The hike is 3.5 miles with a total elevation gain of 882'. Our highest point will be 7280'.
We will start our hike on a trail that runs between the Step Ladder and Scarlet Trails. We will gain over 500' of elevation in the first mile, drop down a little bit, then climb the step ladder for 355' for the next .8 miles. From there we will circle back on a slow steady decline.
Terrain & Scenery: This is a typical hiking trail with dirt and loose rocks. This is a mostly sunny trail with patches of shade along the way to catch our breath and snap a few pictures.
Trail Type: Loop
Parking: There is a large paved parking area at the trailhead.
Directions: if you put 2414 Mt Charleston Scenic Byway in your navi, you will find us. I posted a pic of the parking lot.
Driving Directions: Follow Kyle Canyon until you get to the traffic circle. Make the first immediate right out of the circle. Follow that road a very short distance into the parking lot.
If you use the AllTrails app, you can look for the Step Ladder trail to get an idea of the hike. iI did customize it a bit.
This is a group hike led at a social pace to encourage conversation, connection, and meeting new people while enjoying the outdoors. We'll take breaks as needed, stay together as a group, and focus on having a fun, welcoming experience rather than hiking for speed. Whether it's your first time joining the Sundays at 10 Hiking Series or you're a regular, everyone is welcome!
*Guests must be 21. No fur babies
