Cathedral Rock Trail - Intermediate Hike

Join the Sundays at 10 Hiking Series as we take on Cathedral Rock for the best panoramic views of Kyle Canyon.
We will start at an elevation of around 7660' making it at least 15° cooler. The hike is just under 3 miles with a total elevation gain of 932'.
We will follow the trail at a nice and steady climb for most of the hike. We will gain 730' in the first mile. There are several long switchbacks with very few level areas, but there are a few tree benches along way to catch youtr breath.
After the first mile, we catch a break for about 0.2 miles before the final climb. The last 0.2 miles includes several "staircases" for the final 200' of elevation.
Once we make it to the top, we will hang out for a little bit. Bring a snack and take in the amazing view. This is the Vegas Vibe not everyone gets to experience.
Terrain & Scenery: This hiking trail is mostly loose rocks and gravel. Hiking poles may be helpful, especially on the way down. The trail is wide enough to not get bit by the brush, so shorts will be ok. There are patches of sun and shade. There are plenty of photo ops.
Trail Type: Up and Back
Parking: There is a parking lot at the trailhead, however, this is a popular area, so we will meet at the Mt Charleston Visitor Center at 9:45. From there we will carpool to the trailhead at 9:50.
There are bathrooms with flush toilets at the visitor center as well as at the trailhead.
Directions: The Mt Charleston Visitor Center is located at 2525 Kyle Canyon Rd.
Driving Directions: Follow Kyle Canyon Rd until you get to the circle. The visitor center is on the left - 3rd turn out of the circle.
This is a group hike led at a social pace to encourage conversation, connection, and meeting new people while enjoying the outdoors. We'll take breaks as needed, stay together as a group, and focus on having a fun, welcoming experience rather than hiking for speed. Whether it's your first time joining the Sundays at 10 Hiking Series or you're a regular, everyone is welcome
