Join the Sundays at 10 Hiking Series for a short but rewarding hike with enough elevation gain to make up for the shorter distance. This is a great hike for advanced beginners to build cardio, and for intermediate hikers to get a good workout. After working up an appetite, join us for lunch at Rachel's Kitchen (see below for more info).

We will begin at an elevation of around 8400' making it at least 20° cooler. The hike is about 2.0 miles with a total elevation gain of roughly 650'.

We start the hike by entering between the limestone walls into Wildhorse Canyon. The trail begins with a gradual elevation gain of 230' in the first half mile. The next half mile packs a punch with an elevation gain of almost 400' until we make it to the ridgeline.

We will take our time, stopping as often as we need to. Together we will make it to the ridgeline and enjoy the view. We will hang out for a few minutes to take pics and socialize.
We will follow the ridgeline with 360° views for about 1.5 miles before making our way back down into the canyon. There are a few spots with some loose rocks but nothing we can't help each other navigate.

Terrain & Scenery: The first mile is a typical hiking trail through the trees with dirt, some loose gravel and pine needles. The elevation gain is tough, but the trail is shaded and you will forget we live in the desert. The Ridgeline is limestone, and not a typical trail until we descend.

Trail Type: Loop

Parking: The trailhead is on Deer Creek Rd. We will be parking in an unmarked parking lot on the right 0.3 miles past the North Loop Trail. There are no bathrooms at the trailhead. There are bathrooms on Kyle Canyon Rd at the Visitor Center. Give yourself time to stop on the way up.

Directions: If you put Wild Horse Canyon Trailhead in your navi, you should find us.

Driving Directions: From I11 (95) turn left on Kyle Canyon Rd. Continue past the circle, then make a right on Deer Creek Rd. The parking lot is 5 miles on the right. (0.3 miles past the North Loop Trail).

This is a group hike led at a social pace to encourage conversation, connection, and meeting new people while enjoying the outdoors. We'll take breaks as needed, stay together as a group, and focus on having a fun, welcoming experience rather than hiking for speed. Whether it's your first time joining the Sundays at 10 Hiking Series or you're a regular, everyone is welcome.

Lunch: Join us for lunch at Rachel's Kitchen, 7010 N Durango Dr. Directions - Head back down Deer Creek Rd, make a left Kyle Canyon Rd. Make a right on I11 (95). Head south on I11 (95). Exit Durango Dr. Make a right. Rachel's Kitchen is on the left close to Centennial Hills Hospital.
