Join the Sundays at 10 Hiking Series on Lee Canyon Rd as we follow an unnamed trail to the Pioneer Rock overview. This is a good challenge for advanced beginners and perfect for intermediate hikers.

We will start at an elevation of around 8304' making it at least 20° cooler. The hike is about 3.5 miles with a total elevation gain of just under 750'.

We will begin our hike at the entrance to the Foxtail Group Picnic Area. We will follow an old unpaved road for about 1 mile at a nice steady elevation, gaining 500'. We make our way to an old abandoned Girl Scout Camp, where we will pick up the trail and start our climb up the mountain.
The next .6 miles is a regular hiking trail. The higher we go, the better the view. When we reach the saddle, there is a short steep trail to the Pioneer Rock overlook. This part is optional. We will hang out here for a few minutes, taking in the views.
From the overlook, we continue on the trail, dropping back down into the Girl Scout Camp. We will pick up another trail, eventually making our way back to the parking area.

Terrain & Scenery: This is a combination of an old unpaved road and typical hiking trail with dirt and some loose gravel. There are a few fallen trees that we have to step over, and 1 we have to go under. Hiking poles may be helpful, especially on the downhill. The trail is wide enough to not get bit by the brush, so shorts will be ok. There is equal parts shade and sun.

Trail Type: Loop

Parking: The campground is closed so we have to park outside of the gate. There is a large cement slab to the right for about 6 cars. There is an area to park along the road. (Please see the pic).

Directions: If you put Foxtail Group Picnic Area in your navi, you should find us.

We'll take breaks as needed, stay together as a group, and focus on having a fun, welcoming experience rather than hiking for speed.
