Calico Basin/Girl Scout/Ash Springs - 3 Trails in 1. Advanced Beginner Hike
Details
Join the Sundays at 10 Hiking Series as we make our way back to the Red Rock Canyon area after spending our summer in the Spring Mountains.
We will kick it off with an easy hike that combines sections of 3 different trails for a hike through the calico basin area. This hike is about 3 miles with a total elevation gain of just under 400'.
Calico Basin/Girl Scout/Ash Springs - 3 Trails in 1: The trailhead starts at the Calico Basin / Red Springs parking lot. We will begin our hike along the bottom of the Calico Sandstone Hills where we can climb on some of the rocks and pose for some great pics. From there we will merge with the Girl Scout Trail and eventually drop down into a meadow. We will follow the Ash Springs Trail into the wash until we decide to turn back.
Terrain & Scenery: This trail has the usual dirt and rocks, but we will also hike on large sandstone rocks, some woodsy trails and a wash.
Trail Type: Loop
Parking: Parking is at the Calico Basin / Red Springs parking lot. This is a popular area, so give yourself time to find a spot. If the parking lot is full, there is parking on the shoulder near the entrance.
Directions: If you put "Red Springs Boardwalk" or "Red Springs Picnic Area" in your navi, you will find us. I will be waiting by the picnic tables next to the vault toilets.
This is a group hike led at a social pace to encourage conversation, connection, and meeting new people while enjoying the outdoors. We'll take breaks as needed, stay together as a group, and focus on having a fun, welcoming experience rather than hiking for speed. Whether it's your first time joining the Sundays at 10 Hiking Series or you're a regular, everyone is welcome!
^^^^Group sizes are limited in and around Red Rock per BLM guidelines. If you have 3 no shows or late cancels (less than 24 hours) you will automatically be waitlisted for future hikes.^^^
