Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with Alan Gegax

Details

Join me for a trip I've been wanting to take for 25 years. I am planning a trip to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu on July 21 - 24. We will be using an outfitter called Alpaca Expeditions. I was drawn to them because of the emphasis they put on the good treatment of their porters. You can read their TripAdvisor review from our very own Liz Hyatt HERE. Also, Alpaca Expeditions has nearly 20,000 reviews, and 94% of them are five stars!

The price for the hike will be $795/person. We will sleep three nights, two people to a tent, in four-person tents. You can check out the details of the hike, and the outfitter, by clicking HERE.

CLICK HERE to go to the Alpaca Expeditions website and put down your non-refundable deposit. This is how you'll secure your spot. Put in all your information, and use me as the Point of Contact. Alan Gegax, CoachAlan@gmail.com, +1 (702) 439-5556 . On the next page, under additional information, mention that you're with the group VegasHikers. We don't have hotel information yet.

The adventure starts and finishes in Cusco. It's recommended to spend a day or two in Cusco before the trip to acclimatize to the elevation. Also, it's good to have a time cushion built in for any delays. For this reason, I'm planning to book an Airbnb in Cusco so we can sleep in comfort. I'm also building in a few extra days in Cusco after the trek, in case we want to add on any excursions. I am planning to book enough Airbnb homes to accommodate anybody who wants to stay in them. Total price for lodging will be about $200/person, based on two people per room. If you want your own room, we can probably make that happen for a little extra. You're also free to book a hotel/Airbnb on your own, as long as you show up for the pre-hike briefing on July 20. You can see an example of the type of homes available on Airbnb HERE .

The trek, plus the Airbnb, equals around $1000. The deadline for sending in your NON-REFUNDABLE $200 trek deposit is September 13, 2024.

Other than the trek, you have total flexibility to book your own flights and your own accommodations. If you want to get your own hotel room, or your own Airbnb, it's fine with me. Same for the flights. If you want to spend extra time in Peru, go for it! But remember, you have to be in Cusco and ready to go by July 20th. (There is a pre-hike briefing that day.)

Airfare from Vegas to Cusco looks like it runs between $1000 and $1500, which will bring the total price for the trip to $2500, plus incidentals. It looks like you can save yourself a few hundred bucks by driving yourself to LA to catch your flight, if you wish. When I select my own flights, I'll let you know what I booked. I have no intention of driving to LA, mainly because I don't want to drive home after the trip. You are welcome to join me, or to travel your own way.

I'll fill in more details as they become available, but this is the basic plan. Sign up! And be prepared to pay for your trek by the time the deadline comes on September 13. The Airbnb and the flights will be booked closer to our travel dates.
