Because I had no family or friends here when I first came to Las Vegas, I spent my first Christmas here at my favorite spot in Red Rock. I climbed to the top and looked out over the Park and realized that it was a natural gift that couldn’t be bought and packaged.

After that, I made it a point to always be there on Christmas morning. I used the same route, which was the first route I created at Red Rock.

This is not a trail hike. It's rock scrambling. The route is equivalent to a Tier 3 on my list and has some steep sections. There’s a couple of places that may be a bit scary for those who are not used to exposure, are not good for dogs, and may be a problem for small children. It usually takes about 3 hours.

For many years I invited very few people because I thought nobody would be interested in a Christmas morning hike. When some people said they would have gone if they had known, I started inviting more people.

Over the past years, many people have come along and enjoyed the hike. It’s a chance to reflect on the beauty of our natural world and appreciate those gifts that can’t be bought in a store. I now keep this route exclusively for Christmas morning and no other time.

In the spirit of Christmas, everybody is invited and there is no sign up necessary. Just show up at Red Springs at 9am sharp, on December 25th. You are responsible for your own transportation to and from the park. If you decide that you can’t go, then it’s no problem. Nobody will be counted and that means nobody is a no show.

No RSVP is necessary.

Unfortunately, laws still apply on holidays, therefore:

YOU MUST SIGN A WRITTEN WAIVER TO ATTEND THIS HIKE. The link to the written waiver is here:
http://richardwaltjen.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/written-waiver.pdf

You will not be moved to the "going" list without providing a signed waiver to the email address on the waiver.

If you have already provided a waiver to me, you do not need to provide another one.
