Epic Trip - ARCHAEOLOGY Tour
Details
SOLD OUT!
This trip will be one for the ages! We're taking an archaeological tour through Arizona and New Mexico, seeing a variety of ancient sites, including Canyon de Chelly with a Navajo guide! We'll end the trip with a stop at Elden Pueblo Heritage Site in Flagstaff, where we'll actually get to TAKE PART in a working archaeological site.
Oh, and unlike other Epic Trips, WE'LL BE STAYING IN HOTELS!
***SOLD OUT
Seats on the bus are $375, and [have SOLD OUT]. Your $375 covers the bus and its associated expenses, admission to all parks, and all tours and guides. We'll also have a professor with us ON THE BUS!
For the hotels, we'll be stopping each night at spots that have at least four adjacent hotels. You can choose your hotel, and single or double occupancy, depending on your budget and your needs. Your hotel accommodations are your responsibility. The options are listed for each day.
Here's the basic plan.
Day 1
Load the bus and depart at 5 AM from Sunset Station in Henderson, heading southeast toward Flagstaff, where we'll stop for food and supplies. Then it's on to Winslow, Arizona, and Homolovi State Park, our first archaeological site. At all archaeological sites, we'll have ample time to see the sites, read the signs, talk to the rangers, etc. From there, we take the bus to Gallup, New Mexico, where we'll visit Red Rock Park, home to more archaeological sites, a museum, and some great hiking! Then, it's off to our hotels. You can choose from the La Quinta Inn & Suites, Sleep Inn, TownePlace Suites by Marriott, Holiday Inn Express, or Comfort Suites, all on I-40 and Route 66 in East Gallup.
Day 2
Depart Gallup and take the bus to Aztec Ruins National Monument. After spending a few hours there, we'll grab lunch in Farmington, New Mexico, and then drive to nearby Salmon Ruins for a private archaeological tour. That night, we'll stay in Farmington on Scott Ave., where you have the choice to stay at Courtyard by Marriott, Quality Inn, Days Inn, or Farmington Inn.
Day 3
Depart Farmington and take the bus to Canyon de Chelly National Monument, where we'll spend most of the day. There are phenomenal archaeological sites here, and some good southwestern scenery, too! We'll join a Navajo guide and take a four hour tour of the canyon floor. That evening, we'll drive to Flagstaff, where we'll stay on Forest Meadows and Milton. You have your choice of six different hotels: Hilton Garden Inn, Baymont by Wyndham, Aiden by Best Western, La Quinta Inn, Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn, or SpringHill Suites by Marriott.
Day 4
Load the bus one last time and head to Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monument, where we'll learn about the eruptions that reshaped life for the people we've been learning about. Finally, it's off to Elden Pueblo, where the staff will let us actually work in their active archaeological site! Then it's back to Vegas.
I am very excited about this trip! I hope you are, too.
Notes:
You are responsible for your own hotel accommodations. The bus will park at a central location, as indicated above, and you can take your luggage to the hotel of your choice.
Seats on the bus are transferable. If you wind up not being able to attend, you can sell your spot on the bus to someone else, just let me know. Hotel policies regarding cancellations or transfers are between you and the hotel. I have no control over their policies.
There will be stops every day for food, at places with multiple options. There is also ample room on the bus for drinks, snacks, and even full meals. Your food, souvenir, and incidental expenses are your own responsibility.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
