FIRST DAY HIKE - White Domes Loop

This hike is in cooperation with the Rangers at Valley of Fire as part of their First Day Hikes. There will be many hikes organized by VegasHikers, and others, at Valley of Fire that day.

The entry fee for Valley of Fire is $10 per vehicle, and national park passes are not honored here, because it is a state park.

White Domes Loop Trail in Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada is a relatively easy but totally amazing 1-mile loop trail featuring colorful red Aztec sandstone that was originally sand dunes 200 million years ago in the Jurassic age of the dinosaurs. The dunes froze over time and iron deposits leached up from the ground creating the red coloring.
Another feature of the loop is an abandoned Hollywood set from the 1966 American western film “The Professionals“.

There is a fairly steep descent, followed by a rather level saunter through a bit of a slot canyon, then a gradual grade back up to the parking lot. It's relatively easy, but not a paved walk in your local park. Wear sturdy comfortable shoes. Dress appropriately for the weather. Bring plenty of water.
