HIKE DESCRIPTION
There are many peaks in the Calico Hills at Red Rock. All of them have excellent views of the Park and the City. This route goes to three of the tallest peaks: Calico Tanks Peaks I and II, and Red Cap. Each one has an impressive view of the Park and the City.
To get to all three peaks we'll be taking a new route to the main Calico Tank. From there we'll loop around from peak to peak before returning down another route back to Calico Basin. Along the way we'll pass many of the Calico Tanks. See how many you can count.
Although it may look like just a pile of rocks, this is a rich and diverse area with lots of wildlife and vegetation. Along these routes I've seen lots of different animals, like chuckwallas, hawks, snakes, owls, ravens, and a gila monster. Check out my wildlife gallery for some of my favorite pictures of animals I've seen. This route goes through and around countless different rock formations and colors and patterns.
Not for beginners or those afraid of heights. There are many places that require advanced scrambling skills on this hike and there is some exposure as well. It requires experience and technique. You must be able to lift yourself up and lower yourself down using your arms.
• Helmets are always welcome. Be sure to use one that doesn't block your sight.
• Always carry "in case of emergency" numbers with you.
• No guests will be allowed without my prior approval.
YOU MUST BE ON THE "GOING" LIST IN ORDER TO GO ON THIS HIKE. CRASHING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.
Meet Location will be sent by text or message on the day prior to the hike.
