Join us for an interesting scramble variation up to the Seal Head Rock.

Not recommended for timid scramblers. If you are not comfortable with the first obstacle, please stop and go back. This route has some exposure and is recommended for those comfortable with class 3 scrambling (or for adventurous beginners, you will need to be able to ascend and descend with use of hands) and able to maintain a pace of at least 1 mph scrambling and 2 mph on trail.

We'll start by heading towards Guardian Angel pass taking a less traveled route to Seal Head and then return back along the Assisi ridge or a lower side. Route variations are normal on my hikes.

Bring sufficient water for the conditions (2 to 3 liters for hot days), snacks, sunscreen and a hat. Dress in layers for the weather forecast. Light colored cotton shirts are better for hot sunny weather. Sticky shoes are highly recommended.

Distance: 2 miles

Time: 2 hours or so.

Elevation Gain: 825 feet Max.

Elevation: 4329 feet.

Difficulty: 3 of 5

Class: 3 (scrambling class)

In addition to the electronic liability waiver information above, on advice of counsel, I now require each hiker to sign a written liability waiver, which I will provide at the meetup location. If you are unwilling to provide me this waiver, please do not request to go on my hikes.

I try to always carry a SpotX emergency notification device on my hikes to get help in the shortest amount of time in the event of any emergency requiring SAR or medical help, even without cell or data cell phone coverage. I request that each hiker carry emergency instructions with them on each hike. This information should be easy to find in their packs and include their name, emergency contact person(s) and phone numbers and maybe even primary care physician and pertinent medical info like prescription medications being taken, allergies, etc.
