HIKE DESCRIPTION
Calico Tank is a very popular destination in the park. A large pool of water this high up in the rocks is unusual and fun to visit. But there are more tanks further up in the rocks. This is a hike to all of the Calico Tanks, including the Upper Calico Tanks.
We'll start out along the normal trails, but we'll diverge onto a new route that I'm calling the "express." It will take us up to the Upper Calico Tanks where we can also view some of the city and the surrounding rocks. Some of the tanks will have water and some will be dry, but we'll visit them all.
After visiting the Upper Tanks, we'll take another route down to the Calico Tanks. After a quick visit we'll head back down using another new route that features "the drain." The drain is a deep slot that will require advanced scrambling skills. It has exposure, so if you're afraid of heights, don't sign up.
Of course we’ll always be on the lookout for any wildlife. Along this route I’ve seen lots of Chuckwallas, a few tortoises, snakes, and spiders, too.
• Helmets are always welcome. Be sure to use one that doesn't block your sight.
• Always carry "in case of emergency" numbers with you.
• No guests will be allowed without my prior approval.
YOU MUST BE ON THE "GOING" LIST IN ORDER TO GO ON THIS HIKE. CRASHING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.
Meet Location will be sent by text or message on the day prior to the hike.
