Lake Mead Series: White Owl Canyon

This loop hike includes three slot canyons, a water reclamation area that has a nice flow of water for wildlife, The Pillars, the famous "Twilight Zone" tunnels, and a few sections of class 2 scrambling. The canyons were a known habitat for owls until they became too popular. A recent sighting indicates owls have returned but there is certainly no guarantee of seeing any on a group hike.

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Class: all class 1 trail except for a few sections of class 2 scrambling

Pace: Slow to Moderate
Duration: 4 hours

No guests, children, pets, or event crashers; you must be on the Going list to attend!
All attendees must be members of VegasHikers. It only takes a couple of minutes to sign up & it's FREE.

Gear: Hiking boots or trail shoes (not approach shoes); trekking poles and gloves are recommended but not required

Meetup Location:
Lake Mead Crossing Shopping Mall, 358 W Lake Mead Pkwy, Henderson, surface lot, park at the east end between Sprouts and Chick-fil-A to form carpools for the drive to the trailhead. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early.

This hike is in the Lake Mead area with a group size limit of 12. If you have a Lake Mead or National Park pass, please bring it along with your photo ID.

Instead of tailgating after the hike, some of us are going to The District at Green Valley Ranch to eat.
