Holiday Unplugged: Campfires and Cocoa at Lake Mead (Group Site 5)
Details
Come take a break from the holiday madness and spend a few days camping at Lake Mead! We'll have hiking, campfires, a Saturday potluck, and plenty of time to hang out and enjoy the desert. Feel free to stay for one night or all three!
We'll be staying at Group Site 5. This is tent camping only.
This campout is rated PG. Families are welcome to join.
Activities
We'll spend the evenings around the campfire with s'mores, food, stories, music, and good company. We'll also plan a hike Saturday morning, with details TBD. Hikes will be posted as separate events on Meetup.
Potluck on Saturday. Bring something to share!
There will be music around camp and I will have my violin too, so if you play an instrument, feel free to bring it along.
What should I bring?
Please bring some firewood if you can. December nights at Lake Mead can get cold, and we'd like to keep the fire going!
In addition to your regular camping gear, bring warm layers, a cooler, camp chairs, and a daypack for hiking.
Please donate $5 per day to your host to help cover the campsite reservation ($80 per night).
The current entrance fee for Lake Mead National Recreation Area is $25 per vehicle, valid for 1–7 days. A Lake Mead Annual Pass is $45, and America the Beautiful passes are also accepted.
Let's get to know each other in the comments, and if you're interested in carpooling, let everyone know!
Amenities
Group Site 5 has picnic shelters, running water, charcoal grills, and pit toilets.
Pets
Well mannered leashed pets are welcome. Clean up after your pets please.
