๐ This hike goes up North Loop Trail to a high point at 10,000' elevation and proceeds through a magical twisted forest of Bristlecone Pines. A sharp left turn leads to a ridge with three false summits. The final push to Fletcher Peak is quite steep.
HIKE STATs:
- Trailhead: Wildhorse Canyon
- Distance: 7.5 miles
- Summit: 10,319 feet
- Elevation Gain: 2,100 feet
- Altitude: Between 8,420 โ 10,319 feet
- Difficulty: Strenuous
- Class: All Class 1 trail
- Exposure: None
- Pace: Slow to Moderate โ Conversational
- Duration: 6.0 hours (includes hiking and driving)
GEAR:
- Hiking boots or trail shoes are required
- Trekking poles are optional but very helpful
- 2-3L of water, sun protection, snacks & electrolytes
- Carry a windbreaker, warm gloves, and hat when hiking in the Mt Charleston area
- Carry rain gear during monsoon season
OTHER:
- No guests, children, pets, or event crashers, please!
- Everyone starts on the Waitlist. You must be on the Going list to attend.
We leave at 7:00am; arrive 10 minutes early. Santa Fe Hotel & Casino East parking garage, 3rd floor, turn RIGHT, then right again, go half-way back, Section 3C. There are two parking garages; go to the southeast one closer to Lone Mtn Rd, not the northwest one visible from Hwy 95.
There is limited parking at Mt Charleston trailheads, so carpooling is mandatory. Each passenger is asked to pay their driver at least $5 for gas.
