Anniversary Narrows Hike and Desert Tortoise Talk
Hosted by VegasHikers
Details
Hike and short talk presented by wildlife biologist Gene Drollinger on the endangered Desert Tortoise.
Anniversary Narrows is the name of a slot canyon that runs
through an old mining area near Lake Mead. The hike is
relatively easy, though moderately long...about 6 miles round
trip... with about 2 miles on an easy dirt road that eventually
drops into a wash, and while the road is not steep, it does
roll a bit, and the sandy soil can be make it a bit of a
workout. From there it's up the wash another half-mile to the
narrows. We'll be walking past some abandoned mines, and the ruins of some rather large mining structures including a loading area and a dam. The narrows themselves are about 1/2 mile long and are barely an arms width wide in places.
