VegKC's Annual May Picnic - Potluck & Flowers + Walkabout

Details

On the 4th Saturday of the Month, VegKC is having a Potluck at English Landing Park.

Bring a tasty vegan dish at about 2:00pm (picnic time!). If you have a recipe you want to try, know how to make, or if you feel inclined to lighten things up a bit with a good salad, dessert, favorite dish associated with your heritage, or something else that intrigues you - feel free.

Please read the full event details before coming!

WHAT WILL WE DO?
For May, we will be doing a picnic & flowers theme, so bring your favorite picnic dish - pasta salad, potato salad, chickpea "tuna phish" salad, salad salad, fresh guacamole, finger sandwiches. Or whatever floats your boat.

This will be a relaxed and casual event. We will mainly be eating the delicious food that everyone brings, once most everyone is ready - typically after about 30-60 minutes, unless there are appetizers in the mix to snack on right away! There will definitely be good conversation and relaxed visiting..

We are planning to follow dinner up with a walk around the English Landing and Platte Landing Park Loop. The total loop is 2.5miles if you are feeling up to doing the whole thing. Or, if the weather is conducive, you may bring frisbees, kites, hammocks, exc... There is also a great playground for kids.

WHAT DO I BRING?

  1. Yourself (of course). Family and friends are welcome, too. The event will be kid-friendly (Most VegKC events maintain an Alcohol-free environment).
  2. Comment here with what dish you intend to bring!
  3. Vegan food dish(es) with serving utensils:
Bring a tasty main dish, side dish, or dessert, and bring the utensils needed to serve it.
Everything must be vegan (no dairy, no eggs, no honey, no animal products of any kind).
Any dish should be big enough to feed about 8 people, and you must bring one dish for every 1-2 guests (including yourself).
We have a few raw and gluten-free members who may attend, so if you feel comfortable with those types of recipes and would enjoy bringing them, feel free to do so.
If you think you've got a spectacular dish and you want everyone to have some, be ready to feed everyone who RSVP'd.
If you need ideas, there are a number of vegan recipe blogs and sites online - such as Gaz Oakley, The Minimalist Baker or VegWeb.com - other guests could always recommend their favorite recipe books.
  4. Feel free to bring a beverage for yourself or to share. There will be an electric hot water kettle and teas available.
  5. Bring some easily packed reusable travel tableware if you have it - plate, bowl, utensils, cup and or mug for teas or drinks, at least if we end up at the park.
  6. List of ingredients or a recipe: Helpful for those with food allergies, and curious chefs. Or post a link in the comments below.
  7. You may want to bring a blanket, beach chair, or hammock.

WHERE IS IT?
The potluck location is weather dependent - it looks warm, but not crazy hot, so we're planning on English Landing Park - if dry and about 80 degrees or lower. We find a place to park, go past the parking lot into the park, turn right and up towards the water, turn left on the walkway and we'll find an available shady spot up on the left.

This is a private residence, so please be respectful of the space so that we may continue to host future events here!

This space is home to a clowder of kitties, so please be mindful coming in and closing the door to keep our furry friends safe. We do have hardwood floors which helps a lot, but also something to be aware of if you have cat allergies. (Give us a heads up and we will try to make sure and vacuum extra well beforehand - time allowing.)

HOW DO I GET THERE?
It will be located in English Landing Park in Parkville Missouri. Feel free to message us, but keep in mind we may not immediately notice a notification from Meetup.

The parking is in a public park, hopefully the main parking lot will be open, but there is parking available in several lots and on the street nearby in multiple directions.
