Volunteers needed for Vegan Gumbo Challenge at Tremé Creole Gumbo Fest Nov 9-10

Hey everyone,

I'm excited to share with you that through the good work of our friends at PETA and the Jazz and Heritage Foundation, for the first time ever, every food vendor at this year's Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival (Nov 9-10) will be serving a VEGAN version of their gumbo, in addition to their traditional gumbos.

So you'll get an incredible 2 days of the best brass bands in NOLA in beautiful Armstrong Park and be able to enjoy vegan gumbo from a dozen different great restaurants and chefs!

We're also doing a fun Vegan Gumbo Challenge on Saturday, Nov 9, with a panel of judges selecting the best vegan gumbo and awarding big prizes from Restaurant Depot and the Food Network. And on Sunday, Nov 10, the audience will vote for a fan favorite as well.

Who's cooking? Response has been phenomenal and we're actually at vendor capacity. Among the dozen providers are: our good friends at Breads on Oak and Carmo; Chef Darin Nesbitt from Dickie Brennan's Bourbon House; local soul food icons L'il Dizzy's, Praline Connection and Ms. Linda, and several more. And yes, they'll all be serving completely VEGAN versions of their gumbos, thanks in part to our local Whole Foods, who's providing gift cards for each vendor so they can purchase their vegan ingredients.

PETA and NOJHF are looking for some volunteers to help make this event really special. If you're interested, email me back here or at jcooker [at] gmail and i'll connect you with the right folks.

Thanks so much for your consideration.

PS. Even if you can't volunteer, please mark your calendars now for Nov 9 and 10 to attend this year's Tremé Creole Gumbo Festival and the Vegan Gumbo Challenge to show your support for festivals and events that support vegans. Your attendance will send a clear message to other festival organizers and local restaurants that catering to vegans makes a lot of sense (financially and otherwise).
