About the event( Description from the link above):
With more than 100 rescued farmed animals living at the sanctuary, there is always something that needs attention. Our small team relies on volunteers to help tackle larger projects, care for the property, and create a safe, healthy home for every resident.
Our work parties are a hands-on opportunity to make a meaningful impact through projects focused on animal well-being, habitat and enclosure upkeep, land care, and general sanctuary improvements.
What to Expect
9:00 AM — We’ll meet in the meadow for a brief history of Rancho, go over safety rules and expectations for the day, and talk about the impact your work will have on the project.
9:30 AM — We’ll break into groups and get to work in our assigned project areas. Rancho will provide snacks to keep everyone energized!
12:15 PM — Time to break for our vegan potluck lunch! Bring a dish to share if you can.
1:00 PM — After lunch, we’ll spend about 30 minutes meeting some of our rescued residents and learning more about their stories.
Potluck Lunch
After the work party, we’ll gather for a potluck lunch! Please bring a vegan dish to share. We are 100% vegan property, so all food brought onto the sanctuary must be completely vegan — no meat, dairy, eggs, or honey. We look forward to sharing a meal, connecting, and celebrating the work we accomplished together!
What will volunteers do?
Every work party inculdes a larger hands-on project around the sanctuary. Depending on what’s needed, we might build a structure, prepare the property for the rainy or warm-weather seasons, paint signs, improve our residents habitats, or take on a larger garden project. You’ll also have the opportunity to lend a hand with daily animal care and chores, help care for our garden and grow fresh produce for our community and the underserved youth we sponsor, and pitch in with general property upkeep to help keep our 17-acre sanctuary safe, healthy, and welcoming for everyone.
What will volunteers need to bring or wear?
- Closed-toe, sturdy shoes or boots — no sandals or open-toed shoes, or heels aloud. ( we have various sizes of tall muck boots for you to borrow)
- Comfortable clothes that can get dirty
- Long pants are recommended for animal care, gardening, and property work
- Layers for changing weather
- Work gloves if you have them ( we have gloves that you can borrow)
- No glass refillable water bottle
- All food brought to the property must be vegan
- Sun protection — hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses
Be prepared for uneven, muddy, and sometimes steep terrain around the 17-acre property
Come ready to get dirty, work hard, and have fun!
