Controversy Corner

📍 Location: 2nd Floor, Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre (near the Ballroom Café)

Schedule
6.30 pm to 7.00 pm
General introductions and socialising.

7.00 pm to 8.00 pm
Small group discussions (4 to 6 people in each group).

We'll debate a series of controversial questions, spending around 15 minutes on each. Examples include:

• Should voting be compulsory in democratic countries?
• Should historical monuments linked to controversial figures be removed from public spaces?
• Should international courts have authority over war crimes committed by national leaders?
• Should children be taught moral values explicitly in schools?
• Should the state prioritise equality over individual freedom when they conflict?
• Should wealthy individuals pay significantly higher tax rates than others?

The aim is thoughtful, respectful discussion rather than trying to "win" the debate. Expect to hear different viewpoints, challenge assumptions and sharpen your reasoning.

8.00 pm to 8.30 pm
Open discussion, reflections and end of meeting.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of political views or philosophical background. The only requirement is to engage respectfully and keep an open mind.

Challenge ideas, not people.
Come curious. Leave intrigued.
