Veluwe Power Hikers

Hello there! On the 13th of December the Veluwe Power Hikers will travel to Oisterwijk, for a loop hike that takes us through nature reserve the Kampina and the Oisterwijkse Forests and Fens.

As the name already tells us, during this 19 km loop hike we will walk through a varied landscape of forests and fens, with some heather fields sprinkled through. Plenty of views to enjoy as we approach the shortest day of the year!

After 13 km, we will make a stop at Boshuis Venkraai, where we can enjoy a hot drink and a snack. Once it was a ranger's home, nowadays a cosy café/restaurant. As it is quite small, fingers crossed they have enough room inside for us!

Some sections can be a bit wet, so bring good hiking shoes.

📍When and where to meet?
Oisterwijk train station at 11:00am, at the water fountain in front of the station.

⏰ We start walking a few minutes after 11:00 — we don’t wait for latecomers, as the forest calls and daylight is short this time of year.

🚗 Coming by car?
There should be plenty of parking space. But note: It’s always the drivers who are late 😉 So please arrive a bit early to avoid running after us.

~ 7 km: 15 min break for a drink/snack, out in nature
13 km: 30-45 min break at Boshuis Venkraai

👟 Good to know

• Refund policy: Cancellations are fully refundable up to 1 week before the event (This is Friday 5 December at 23h59). After this period, the fee becomes non-refundable.
• Hike difficulty: Our hikes are moderately challenging. Please only join if you’re confident you can keep up with the group’s pace (5 km/ h)— it’s more fun for everyone when we can walk together without long waits.
• If the pace is too challenging: We may kindly suggest you continue at your own pace. We’ll give you clear directions to the nearest bus or train so you can return comfortably.
• At your own risk: You participate at your own risk, so please make sure you have appropriate insurance coverage for outdoor activities.
• Payment note: With Tikkie we only see initials (e.g., J. Doe instead of John Doe). Please include your Meetup name in the payment note so we can match it easily.
• Friends joining: If you bring a friend, make sure they also register and pay.
• What to bring: Snacks, lunch, and 1 liter of water/ or hot thee/ coffee (depending on the hike distance).

Join us for an unforgettable high-altitude adventure as we take on the ultimate spring hike: the summit of Mount Everest. This ambitious 8,848-meter trek offers once-in-a-lifetime views, icy ridgelines, and that unique feeling of standing on top of the world—all within a single-day hiking format, VPH style.

We’ll meet in the early morning at Kathmandu International Airport, then make our way to the trailhead. From there, we’ll begin a steady ascent through alpine valleys, ancient glaciers, and steep technical sections near the summit.

Expect breathtaking scenery and atmospheric conditions ranging from crisp sunlight to light jet stream winds at higher altitudes. A moderate level of fitness is required.

When and Where to Meet?
04:05 sharp at the top level of Kathmandu Airport (near Gate B17 at the Kiosk). ⏰ Please arrive on time, as we won’t be able to wait for latecomers. 🥾✨

Note: We will aim to return to Kathmandu the same evening, but delays may occur due to wind conditions.

Where and When Shall We Rest?
We’ll take three short breaks:

• Morning tea stop at Base Camp (3,500 m)
• Lunch break at Camp 3 (7,200 m)
• Short summit pause for reflection and group photo

What to Bring

• Solid hiking shoes
• 2 lunch packs and 3 liters of water
• Warm layers (especially for zones above 7,000 m)
• Some extra oxygen if you tend to get lightheaded
• A compact snack to share at the summit
