🏛️ Urban Odyssey – 32km Romeinse Limespad Hike from Arnhem to Nijmegen 🏛️

This time we’re trading forests for urban trails and cityscapes! Join us for a hiking adventure as we walk a modified segment of the Romeinse Limespad. This hike will take us from Arnhem to Nijmegen covering about 32km. This route follows the historic Roman border path through Park Lingezegen, then continues on through Elst, Bemmel and all the way to the banks of the Waal in Nijmegen.

⚠️ Heads up – this is not a beginner hike!
32km on foot is a serious distance, even on flat terrain. If you haven’t done longer hikes before, think twice before signing up – it’s important that everyone can keep a steady pace throughout the hike.

🥾 What’s the plan?
We’ll start directly from Arnhem Central Station, following the Roman Limespad segment out of the city and into Park Lingezegen. From there, the trail shifts from nature park to more urban landscapes as we pass through Rijkerswoerdse plassen, Elst, Bemmel and surrounding areas before reaching Nijmegen train station. The trail is flat and straightforward, but the distance makes it moderately challenging. Expect a mix of paved paths, small roads, and bike lanes.

🥪 Breaks:
• ~10km: 30min lunch break near Rijkerswoerdse Plassen.
• ~20km: 15min short break in Bemmel
• ~28km: Quick 10min break on the outskirts of Nijmegen

👟 Good to know:

• This hike is at your own risk. Please ensure you have appropriate insurance coverage for outdoor activities
• If your Meetup name is different from your payment account name, please add a note with your Meetup name so I can easily match them.
• Bring food for lunch and/or snacks for during the hike. There will be cafes along the way, for bio-break but they tend to be full during summer for eating with such a large group.
• Bring at least 2 litres of water for drinking along the way.
• If you plan to bring a companion, please ensure that they are also registered for the hike.
• If the pace becomes too challenging, I may kindly ask you to continue on your own with clear guidance — including how to catch the nearest bus safely.
