OVERVIEW:
BACKPACKING TRIP
We will work on clearing the Santa Lucia Trail above the saddle where the spur takes off to Junipero Serra. This is the southern end of the Santa Lucia Trail.
WORK on the Santa Lucia Trail. We will hike up 4.2 miles from the trailhead at Memorial Park to a spike camp. This will be a good introduction to backpacking and trailwork.
THE WORK
The most difficult part of this trip is finding the meeting location. Contact leader for directions if needed. After that, the next most difficult part will be hiking 2400 feet up to our camp location. After that, the work will be a breeze! Clear ceanothus, manzanita, and yerba santa from the brushy sections of the trail. Touch up tread. Come join us! There is work for all abilities. Beginner to expert. Tools and instruction provided. The work location has some poison oak but you could avoid it.
MEET: The tank at the intersection of Jolon Road and Mission Road 08:00 A.M.
IMPORTANT: Meetup directions may not be the best. In your mapping program, search for:
St Luke's Episcopal Church
65500 Jolon Road, Jolon, CA 93928
CONTINUE past St. Luke's, turn right on Mission Road, and look for a tank on the left. There are sometimes vehicles parked in front of the tank, waiting for the schoolbus. Don't go past the tank. Do not take the shortcut Mission Road, continue on Jolon Road until there is a 90 degree right turn. We will meet at the tank and continue together from there to the trailhead. The tank is approximately 200 feet from Jolon Road. Contact leader if you have questions.
Tank coordinates are 35.968866,-121.178047
LEADER APPROVAL REQUIRED for partial attendance; contact leader for trip and meeting details.
