Details

TRIP TITLE / DATES / IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

Backpack THREE Nights Pine Ridge Trail FROM CHINA CAMP

VWA TRAIL CREW LEADER:

Betsy MacGowan (Friday meeting)/ Sharol (Saturday meeting)/Maria (tentative - Sunday meeting)

Please put in the comments what day you will arrive. If you cannot stay for the entire trip please note that as well. If you have your own hardhat and tools, please bring them, note that.

OVERVIEW:

BACKPACKING TRIP

HIKE 4 miles from the trailhead at China Camp to camp at Divide Camp on the Pine Ridge Trail. We will hike directly to Divide Camp. The work will be clearing trees from the trail between Divide Camp and Pine Ridge Camp. The total hiking distance will increase each day as we make progress towards Pine Ridge Camp, up to a total of 8 miles assuming we get all the way there. Which is unlikely, so more trips will be needed to complete this work. This is a fairly easy hike in, although the hike out is a bit of a challenge!

WORK clearing 85 fallen trees from the Pine Ridge Trail between Divide Camp and Pine Ridge Camp.

This will be a good introduction to backpacking and trailwork. You may choose to participate in part of the trip. This must be approved by the leader in advance.

THE WORK:

This trip will focus on clearing fallen trees from the trail between Divide Camp and Pine Ridge Camp. We will start right at the camp, and expect to get farther from the camp each day. There is work for all abilities. Beginner to expert. Tools and instruction provided. The work location doesn't have a lot of poison oak. Long sleeves and long pants are recommended even for the hike in.

MEET: Friday: Jamesburg 7 A.M. DON'T BE LATE! Or 7:30 at China Camp.
There will be a separate group starting Saturday 8:00 A.M. at Jamesburg - Leader Sharol.

IMPORTANT: Meetup directions may not be the best. In your mapping program, search for:
39171 Tassajara Road, Carmel Valley, CA 93924

If your mapping program wants you to turn on Cachagua Road from Carmel Valley Road, DON'T. This way takes much longer. Continue on Carmel Valley Road to just past the 23.2 mile marker, then turn right on Tassajara Road.

The meeting location is at the end of the paved section of Tassajara Road, at a large turnaround with many cars and trash cans. If you pass this turnaround and start driving uphill on the dirt section of Tassajara Road, you have gone too far.

LEADER APPROVAL REQUIRED for partial attendance; contact leader for trip and meeting details.
