TRIP TITLE / DATES / IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

Backpack THREE Nights Carrizo Trail
Memorial Day Weekend Trip

VWA TRAIL CREW LEADER:

Betsy MacGowan

OVERVIEW:

BACKPACKING TRIP

HIKE a total of 5.5 miles to the work location. On Friday we will hike 3.2 miles from the trailhead at the Railroad Bridge on Road 6 to camp at Carrizo Springs Camp on the Carrizo Trail. On Friday we will work on brush and tread in the half mile before the camp. Saturday we will hike another 2.5 miles to the section of the trail with many fallen trees. We will clear trees from the trail in the last mile before the Cook Springs Camp turn off. This is a strenuous hike and we will ask participants to help carry crosscut saws and saw kit contents. You must be in good physical condition to participate.

You may choose to participate in part of the trip. This must be approved by the leader in advance.

THE WORK:

This trip will focus on clearing 10 fallen trees tree complexes from the trail. Several of the trees are more than 2 feet in diameter. We will attempt to clear all of them but there is a lot of work here and we will need everyone's help to clear these trees. There is work for all abilities. Beginner to expert. Tools and instruction provided. The work location doesn't have a lot of poison oak. Long sleeves and long pants are recommended even for the hike in.

MEET: Friday: Road 6 Friday morning 8 A.M. DON'T BE LATE!
There may be a separate group starting Saturday 8:00 A.M. Stay tuned for details.

IMPORTANT: In your mapping program, search for:
Memorial Park Campground, Indians Rd, Big Sur, CA 93920
You will not go as far as Memorial Park. If you do, you have gone too far.
You may also search for Salsipuedes Ranch.

Drive to Fort Hunter Liggett, then take Del Venturi Road towards the Santa Lucia Memorial Park area. After you cross the Forest Service boundary, look for Road 6 on the left. We will meet at the beginning of Road 6. Once assembled, we will drive down another mile or so to the trailhead.

LEADER APPROVAL REQUIRED for partial attendance; contact leader for trip and meeting details.
