OVERVIEW:
CAR CAMPING TRIP
UPDATE we cannot car camp due to the predicted rain. Instead we will hike 0.2 miles to camp NEAR our vehicles.
Drive 12 miles from Jamesburg on Tassajara Road to Church Ranch. We will set up camp first thing Friday, then work on tread starting from our camp. Our focus will be on clearing brush and restoring tread on the Church Creek Trail. On Sunday we hope to clear a couple of fallen trees, located on the upper part of the trail near Church Creek Divide.
WORK on the Church Creek Trail. We will hike up to 2 miles to our work location. But most days we will have a short hike, less than a mile, to our work. This will be a good introduction to backpacking and trailwork.
THE WORK
Use hand tools to clear brush and restore the trail tread. Clear ceanothus, manzanita, and yerba santa from the brushy sections of the trail. Restore tread. Come join us! There is work for all abilities. Beginner to expert. Tools and instruction provided. The work location has some poison oak but you could avoid it.
MEET: Jamesburg 08:00 A.M.
IMPORTANT: Meetup directions may not be the best. In your mapping program, search for:
39171 Tassajara Road, Carmel Valley, CA 93924
We will meet in Jamesburg at a large turnaround where many vehicles are parked. This is where the paved part of Tassajara Road ends, and the dirt road begins. From there we will consolidate vehicles so we can negotiate the rough, rocky dirt road to our starting point. Be prepared to move your gear to a different vehicle so we can minimize the number of vehicles.
If your mapping program wants you to turn on Cachagua Road from Carmel Valley Road, DON'T. This way takes much longer. Continue on Carmel Valley Road to just past the 23.2 mile marker, then turn right on Tassajara Road. Drive ~1.5 miles, turn left to stay on Tassajara Road.
