An abridged, English-language version of Massenet’s enchanting fairy-tale opera, this performance stars beloved mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard as the rags-to-riches title princess and mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo as the love-struck Prince Charming, with Emmanuel Villaume on the podium to lead a witty and whimsical production by Laurent Pelly. In February 2026, the opera returns to select movie theaters in a special encore presentation.
They have abridged the opera and used an English Language score to make it appealing to children while retaining its appeal to adults. So should you have any grandchildren you like, bring them to this. They will love it and maybe it will plant a seed that will lead them to a love of classical music.
Seeing a Met Opera simulcast with first-class singers and often over-the-top staging is a real opportunity. And who knows, you might like it. The Metropolitan Opera is as good as it gets. And these broadcasts are a chance to see the Met at a reasonable price, in comfortable seats, and with popcorn or ice cream at your seat. Seeing a Met Opera performance should be on everyone's bucket list. Here's a chance to check that box.
