This practice is for ACA Canyon Leader Aspirants. If you are not sure what that is then you are most likely not an Aspirant.
Please note that all times listed are intended to be Pacific Standard Time
This is last minute notice for this practice and if we need to, we can move it to another evening. Cody Moyer will be there as well but he is only available until August 9th so that is the reason for such short notice.
This practice will include:
• Brief overview Rescue principles
• System check principles and strategies
• The difference between a lift and a haul
• Using a mariner’s hitch to lift
• Using a Purcell prusik to lift
• Converting blocked rope to lower
• Converting blocked rope to a raise
• Edge protection/friction reduction
• How do decided how much MA you need
• MA progressions
What to bring: As a canyon leader you will need to carry more than just a participant might bring. You should have all the basics and then extra gear to rig for contingencies.
THIS WILL BE A LIVE PRACTICE. WE WILL BE ON ROPE AND AT RISK.
Technical gear you would normally carry into a canyon
o Harness
o Helmet
o gloves
o Rope
o Webbing/slings
o Long dyneema slings are very useful: 8mm wide and 180cm long is nice but 120cm will do. (Petzl is what I have and what Rich sells)
o Purcell prusik
o Carabiners
o Friction devices
o Rope grabs
• Examples of gear to bring if you have it:
o Micro Traxion
o Pulleys
o Ropeman
o VT prusik
o Standard prusik slings
o Tibloc
o Gri Gri
o Totem
o Anything else you use for rigging
