Trail Maintenance Experience at Sams Knob

Details
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!!
Wow May is going to fly by and soon it’ll be National Trail Day! There are a lot of amazing trails that take our breath away on our public lands. But do you know the extraordinary people and methods to keep those trails spectacular? To celebrate National Trail Day, NPCA Southeast is teaming up with the Carolina Mountain Club to assist with trail maintenance on the Sam Knob Summit Trail. This work is incredibly important, as it keeps the trails clear for future generations.
Trail maintenance is a great way to get involved in the public lands community. Carolina Mountain Club offers a unique program to introduce new participants to maintaining and revamping trails. They provide all their wisdom, supervision, and tools. Hard hats are available if you would like one.
NPCA Southeast is encouraging veterans to give a little love to our favorite trails, but don’t be afraid to invite friends! Attached also is the flyer from Carolina Mountain Club regarding how to sign up for their event June 3. If you are a vet and want to attend, please sign up here on MeetUp, or sign up with the CMC flyer (but please let me know you are attending!). Please encourage your friends and family to use the flyer. Their flyer is at this hyperlink:

The distance to walk to work area is less than 1 mile with an elevation gain between 200 and 300 feet. The total length of the trail is 1.2 miles. When we are not improving the trail, you can visit the summit!
Please wear sturdy books, long pants, and work gloves. Bug spray and sunblock might not be a bad idea either. This trail is at 6000 ft and is 2.5 miles out and back. It is rated a moderate hike.
Bring your lunch and plenty of water. We recommend at least 2 liters. As always, NPCA Southeast will provide snacks, camaraderie, and water at the trail’s end (we will be working alongside with you!).
