Overview

The primary focus of this talk will showcase the mindset of a Compositor for ILM/Weta and Compositing Supervisor for Method Studios . He will speak about his experience regarding the following:

The process of Stylization, Colour Correction, & selective treatments (in camera effects and atmospherics ) & how it can be essential to telling a story within each shot.

How to build some custom flares, lens dirt, lens hits in nuke

He will also showcase some examples over his career for stylization. ie. 300 / Tron / Mass Effect 2 & 3

Chris van Dyck

Chris van Dyck is a Vancouver-based VFX and Compositing supervisor in the commercial, film, and television industry. With a decade of experience, he has worked at some of the top studios around the world: WETA Digital, Industrial Light & Magic, MPC, Rising Sun Pictures, Animal Logic, The Embassy and Prime Focus. Some of his most notable credits include: The Hobbit 1 & 2, Thor 2, Life of Pi, Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon, Tron: Legacy, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ironman and Frank Miller’s: 300.

For four years, Chris was VFX Supervisor and co-founder at Faction Creative, an award-winning boutique style visual effects company that employed over 25 people and delivered effects for such shows as: Underworld 4, Apollo 18, H Plus: the digital series, Lost, Killers, Mass Effect 2 & 3, Invictus, and the Haunting Hour. Currently he is a board member on the VES: Vancouver Chapter and is working as the Lead Compositor on Game of Thrones at Look FX.chrisvandyck.com (http://www.chrisvandyck.com/)
