Join us for a live online Q&A with François Gendron, a senior VFX Lighting Artist with credits on Avatar, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Sin City, Avengers: Infinity War, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

In this session, François will talk about what lighting artists actually do day to day in film and VFX, how lighting fits into the production pipeline, and the tools used in studios today, including Katana. He’ll share insights from his own industry experience and explain what studios look for in lighting artists.

He’ll also walk through our Lighting Program, starting in January 2026, including how it’s structured, what skills you’ll learn, and examples of past student work. If you’re curious about the program, this is an easy way to see what it’s about before committing.

We’ll finish with an open Q&A, so you can ask questions about learning lighting, working in VFX, or moving into film, CG, or animation from another background.

This session is open to anyone interested in learning something new, exploring 3D, CG, or animation, or understanding how lighting works in film production.
