Automate Work with AI Agents: Hermes Workshop

Tuesday 18 August 2026 · 17:30–19:00
Leicester Startups, Canopy, King Street, Leicester

This is our first workshop, run by Brook, one of our community members.

This session will be a bit more technically involved than our monthly socials, and there is some setup required beforehand if you want to follow along hands-on. But it's absolutely open to beginners: with a bit of persistence, everything we cover is achievable even if you're new to this. And if you'd rather just watch, learn and ask questions without diving in yourself, you're welcome to do so.

What is Hermes?

Hermes is an open-source, model agnostic, AI agent framework that goes beyond a chatbot: instead of just answering questions, it can connect to your tools, remember context across sessions, and actually carry out tasks for you. It's become one of the most talked-about tools in the AI agent space this year, and this session is your chance to get hands-on.

What will we cover?

  • What Hermes is and how it works
  • Connections: hooking Hermes up to the tools and platforms you use
  • What it can actually do
  • How to think in systems rather than tasks to maximise value
  • A couple of worked examples, including building a small multiplayer game and an IRC-style app
  • Open floor for your own ideas and questions

The main session will run for about 45 minutes, followed by time for questions. After that, for the remainder you're free to stick around, network, connect, and try things out.

Hermes Setup

If you want to follow along hands-on, please install Hermes before you arrive as we won’t have time to run through the full setup up on the day. Brook's examples will be using the CLI version, but there is also a desktop app if you're more comfortable with a modern interface. If you’re not sure how to get it installed, there are lots of videos, or you can just ask AI.

We're grateful to be collaborating with Leicester Startups on this one. They've generously offered us the space free of charge, supporting us to make this free community event possible.

If you're arriving early, you're welcome to wait in the café downstairs, and we'll come and get you when it’s time.

Please aim to arrive on time as we'll be starting promptly at 17:30.

Any questions in advance, feel free to message me.
