# Growing Native Plants from Seed for Biodiversity In-Person
Did you know that commercially grown 'nativars' are typically grown from cuttings from parent plants and not from seed? An entire batch can have the same DNA! These plants might look good on the shelf, but in the face of swings in weather, plant disease and invasive pressure, they can be vulnerable. Growing natives from seed increases resilience and biodiversity. In addition, it's fun and rewarding. Learn more about how to grow your own native plants from seed!
Sarah Sutton owns Spicebush Swallowtail Native Plants, a NYS licensed native plant nursery based in Pittsford, NY.
