**We have nearly completed knocking down the Phragmites on the perimeter of the pond at Lehigh crossing Park. We now have a good view of the pond and many native plants that were struggling to compete are making a showing and transforming the shoreline. The battle is nowhere near over, but our goal is to improve habitat for the wildlife as well as make a destination for people to enjoy. At next work party we may concentrate on an area adjacent to the pond where we have planted some native shrubs and did some work last year on removing some invasive shrubs.
**Please wear sturdy work boots, bring work gloves, and water to drink. If we do work in the wooded area next to the pond I recommend some kind of safety glasses. There would be multi flora rose, autumn olive, and common buckthorn, all of which have sharp spines. However, if we can get this area cleared of these invasives, the shrubs that we planted last year and the small struggling natives that are already there will have a much better chance of thriving. I believe it is a small enough area that we can continue to monitor as we do the pond. This would contribute to a more supportive environment for the wildlife in the area and be more attractive to the people who visit. Loppers and small saws or electric chainsaws might be helpful for the larger shrubs. Some tools will be available to use but if you have favorites bring them along.

The photo is from 10/30/25-the first time since spring that I noted water flowing into the pond. The rain has been most welcome.
